Meet Sylvain Doré, Chief Information Officer, Aproove

On the Aproove blog today we thought we'd share a little more of 'behind the scenes' here at the company, and what better way to do that than meeting the team and giving you a day-to-day insight as to what they get up to in order to keep things ticking away smoothly here at Aproove! 

First up, we chat to Sylvain Doré, who is Aproove's Chief Information Officer, where we discover more about his career background, what consists of a typical working day for him, and highlights of working at Aproove so far...

Professional Background

How long have you been with Aproove? From May 2019 to Oct 2022, and now back again, starting in May 2024!

Can you describe your role at Aproove? I oversee technical operations, which includes managing the infrastructure, handling customer implementation projects and handling escalated support issues. I also manage the internal IT projects.

What attracted you to Aproove originally? Definitely the people. I knew Gary (Chief Operations Officer) and Xavier from a past life and was amazed at how smart and hard-working the rest of the team was.

What do you like most about Aproove Work Management software? How powerful and versatile it is. It caters to the needs both large multi-national companies as well as smaller to mid-size organizations, all with the same codebase.

What is a typical day like for you? There’s no such thing as a typical day, but I usually try to start early to get some FaceTime with the development team in Europe, then I get caught on the on-going projects and tasks. Afternoons are where I’ll schedule most of my customer meetings to either help them resolve a particular issue, discuss project-related tasks, or look at how we can further add value to their subscription.

What has been your favourite project or accomplishment at Aproove so far? I would say it’s a tie between the LANL and PureRED implementations.

The PureRED project was particularly memorable as it marked my first major implementation with Aproove. It was exciting to witness the transformation of initial ideas and concepts on a whiteboard into a fully operational system used by hundreds of team members.

The LANL project stood out due to its complexity and the unique challenges posed by the client's stringent security requirements. Implementing a comprehensive work management solution in such a highly secure environment required meticulous planning and precise execution. Unlike other projects where we could directly access the system for troubleshooting and adjustments, LANL's restricted access meant we had to rely entirely on their IT team.

What upcoming projects can we expect from Aproove? The release of the Project and Resource management functionality is huge, and as our customers start making use of it, I’ll be busy with customer calls to brainstorm on how to further improve their efficiency by leveraging this functionality.

Personal Insights

Where are you from originally? Born and raised in Montréal.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time? Sailing is a big part of my life. I spend a lot of the summer on my sailboat.

What’s a fun fact about you that not many people know? I used to be a sailing instructor.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of work? I love travelling, and spend most of my vacation days travelling abroad, on a sailboat when possible.

Do you have any hidden talents? I can solve a Rubik’s cube in under 2 minutes.

If you could switch jobs with anyone for a day, who would it be? Once we have astronauts living on Mars, that would probably be my number one choice to switch for a day.

Favourite inspirational quote: There are so many, but I particularly like one of Steve Jobs’ quote: “The only way to do great work is to love what you do.”
